When
booking a medical flight, please inform BSA the condition
of the patient and what type of medical equipments that
will be needed onboard. Also give details of people accompanying
the patient.
Our pilots have been trained
by SOS International using all the aircraft medical equipments.
But since pilots are non-medical personnel, we require that
the customer organizations arrange their own doctor or nurse
onboard.
The cost of medical evacuation
is 1500 USD plus VAT per flight hour (January,2010). This includes the
charge for the airplane, air crew and the following equipments
that may or may not be avialable:
Medical oxygen system and
pulse oxymeter, SOS medical kit for
a doctor, head restraint, neck collars, slings, emergency
air splints, patient transport
support (Basket, scoop, collapsible, vacuum
mattress, spine board)
SERVICE AVAILABILITY AND RESPONSE TIME
The medical evacuation service
BSA provides is subject to local regulations and aeroplane
and aircrew availability. For example: If BSA aircraft is
booked for other flights the medical evacuation flight may
not be possible or may have to be delayed. We at BSA shall
make our best effort to plan the operations so that medical
evacuation flights would be possible. Normally BSA aircraft
can take off in 2 hours from the decision to use the BSA
medical evacuation service.
RESPONSIBILITY
BSA can not take the medical
responsibility for the patient, may it be during the ground
transport or during the flight. On medical flights the patients
shall be accompanied by another person if considered unable
to look after themselves during the flight.
BSA will, however, give assistance possible to help finding
medical personnel, arranging ground transport if needed
etc. This does not imply a liability for those persons arranged
by BSA to assist.
CHECK LIST
- Contact BSA to book the flight.
For insurance covered patients the insurance company should
authorize the flight via email or fax
- Organize doctor or nurse to accompany the patient onboard
if possible
- Ensure ground transport - ambulance or other necessarily
vehicles for the patients arrival.
- Organize interpreter needed for assisting in local hospital.
- Make sure the patient has passport and visas if planning
to travel out of the country for further treatment.
- Should another international medical evacuation company
aircraft be involved for further transport, please organise
contact person to deal with them.
- After the flight contact BSA office to settle the formalities.
